Ingredients

  • 1 cup (150 g) frozen blueberries
  • 1/3 cup (30 g) rolled oats certified gluten-free if needed
  • 1 medium (frozen) banana peeled and sliced before freezing
  • 1 cup (240 ml) unsweetened almond milk or oat milk, coconut milk, or dairy milk
  • 1/2 tsp ground turmeric
  • 1 pinch black pepper helps absorb curcumin
  • 1 tsp honey or maple syrup optional, add if banana is not very ripe
  • 1 tsp fresh lemon juice optional, brightens the flavor

Method

  1. Add the rolled oats to the blender and blend alone on high for 15 seconds until they resemble a coarse flour.
  2. Add the frozen blueberries, frozen banana, ground turmeric, black pepper, and almond milk to the blender.
  3. If using, add the honey or maple syrup and lemon juice now.
  4. Blend on high for 45 to 60 seconds until completely smooth and no oat chunks remain.
  5. Taste and adjust sweetness or thickness. Add more milk one tablespoon at a time if it's too thick.
  6. Pour into a tall glass and serve immediately while cold and thick.

Notes

Frozen banana is the key to getting the smoothie thick and cold without ice. Peel and slice bananas ahead of time and keep a bag in the freezer.
