Ingredients

For the Apples
  • 3 large apples (mix of tart and sweet) (about 600 g total); cored, sliced 3 mm thick
  • 1 tsp lemon juice to prevent browning
For the Almond Drizzle
  • 1/4 cup almond butter / 60 g; creamy style
  • 2 tbsp almond milk / 30 ml; to thin the drizzle
  • 1 tsp honey or maple syrup
  • 1/4 tsp cinnamon
For the Toppings
  • 2 tbsp sliced almonds / 15 g; toasted
  • 2 tbsp mini chocolate chips / 20 g; optional
  • 1 tbsp unsweetened shredded coconut / 10 g; optional
  • 1 pinch sea salt

Method

Prep the Apples
  1. Wash and core 3 large apples (about 600 g total). Slice thin, about 3 mm thick, into rounds or half-moons.
  2. Toss the apple slices with 1 tsp lemon juice in a mixing bowl, turning gently to coat. This keeps them pale while you build the plate.
Make the Drizzle and Assemble
  1. In a small bowl, whisk together the almond butter, almond milk, honey, and cinnamon until smooth and pourable. Warm it for 10 seconds in the microwave if it's too thick to drizzle.
  2. Arrange the apple slices in an overlapping layer on a 13-inch / 33 cm serving platter, the way you'd fan out tortilla chips.
  3. Drizzle the almond butter mixture evenly over the apples.
  4. Scatter the toasted sliced almonds, mini chocolate chips, and shredded coconut over the top.
  5. Finish with a pinch of sea salt and serve right away, while the apples are still crisp.

Notes

  • Slice apples no more than a few minutes before serving.
  • Toss slices in lemon juice right away to slow browning.
  • Warm almond butter drizzle briefly if it's too thick to pour.
  • Toast almonds ahead of time and store them airtight for up to a week.
