Ingredients

Smoothie Base
  • 120 ml plain whole-milk kefir cold, straight from the fridge
  • 280 g frozen mixed berries strawberries, blueberries, raspberries
  • 1 small frozen banana sliced before freezing
  • 1 tsp honey optional, to taste
Toppings
  • 4 tbsp low-sugar granola
  • 40 g fresh blueberries
  • 4 pieces sliced fresh strawberries
  • 1 tsp chia seeds or hemp seeds
  • 1 tsp honey optional drizzle to finish

Method

  1. Add the frozen mixed berries and frozen banana slices to the blender first, then pour the cold kefir over the top.
  2. Blend on high for 20 seconds, scrape down the sides with a rubber spatula, then blend again for 10 seconds until the mixture is thick and smooth with no large chunks.
  3. Taste the base. If the berries are very sour, add 1 tsp honey and pulse once to combine.
  4. Check the consistency - it should hold a spoon mark on the surface. If it looks too thin, add a small handful of frozen berries and blend briefly.
  5. Pour the base evenly into two wide, shallow bowls.
  6. Arrange granola, fresh blueberries, sliced strawberries, and chia seeds across the top. Add a light drizzle of honey if you like.
  7. Serve immediately before the granola softens.

Notes

The base must stay cold throughout blending - if your blender runs hot, work in shorter bursts and keep the lid on between pulses.
