  • 1 lb ground chicken or turkey for a leaner option
  • 1 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 1 small onion finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 tbsp fresh ginger grated
  • 1 carrot shredded
  • ½ cup water chestnuts chopped
  • 3 green onions sliced
  • 2-3 tbsp hoisin sauce light if possible
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce or tamari for gluten-free
  • 1 tsp sesame oil
  • Salt and pepper to taste
For the Wraps:
  • 1 head butter lettuce or iceberg lettuce leaves separated and rinsed
Optional Garnishes:
  • Chopped peanuts
  • Fresh cilantro
  • Extra hoisin or duck sauce for drizzling

Method

  1. Prep your ingredients: Chop vegetables, grate ginger, and separate lettuce leaves.
  2. Cook the protein: Heat oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add ground chicken and cook until it starts to brown, breaking it into small pieces.
  3. Add aromatics: Stir in onions, garlic, and ginger. Cook 2-3 minutes until fragrant.
  4. Add vegetables: Mix in shredded carrot, chopped water chestnuts, and green onions. Cook another 2 minutes.
  5. Add the sauce: Stir in hoisin sauce, soy sauce, and sesame oil. Mix well to coat everything evenly. Taste and adjust salt or pepper as needed.
  6. Assemble the wraps: Spoon filling onto lettuce leaves. Add garnishes like peanuts or cilantro if desired. Fold or roll and enjoy!

Notes

  • You can swap ground chicken for turkey, beef, or pork depending on your preference.
  • Lettuce leaves should be fresh and crisp for the best bite.
  • This recipe is great for meal prep; store the filling in the fridge and assemble wraps when ready to eat.
  • For extra flavor, drizzle a little extra hoisin or duck sauce when serving.
