Ingredients

  • 2 medium carrots, peeled and roughly chopped about 200 g total
  • 180 ml fresh orange juice from about 2 large oranges
  • 1 frozen ripe banana about 120 g, sliced before freezing
  • 1/4 tsp ground turmeric or 1-inch fresh turmeric, grated
  • 1/2 tsp fresh ginger grated, about a small knob
  • 1 pinch black pepper
  • 120 ml cold water or coconut water add more for thinner consistency
  • 4 to 6 ice cubes optional, for a colder result

Method

  1. Peel and roughly chop the carrots into 2 to 3 cm pieces so the blender can handle them easily.
  2. Juice the oranges and measure out 180 ml. Set aside.
  3. Add the chopped carrot, orange juice, frozen banana, ground turmeric, grated ginger, and black pepper to the blender.
  4. Pour in 120 ml of cold water or coconut water.
  5. Blend on high for 60 to 90 seconds until completely smooth and no visible carrot pieces remain.
  6. Check the consistency. If it's too thick, add water a tablespoon at a time and blend briefly.
  7. Taste and adjust by adding a squeeze more orange juice if the turmeric flavor is too sharp.
  8. Pour over ice if desired and serve immediately.

Notes

Add a tablespoon of ground flaxseed or chia seeds to boost fiber and omega-3s without changing the flavor. Blend them in with everything else.
